Early 20th century indigo linen biaude smock. A nice example of a piece of French historical clothing traditionally worn by "maquignon" or cattle and horse merchants but also worn by a wide variety of merchants, market traders, shop keepers and other workers, sometimes for best or sometimes as a work overall.

Beautiful design and fabric, natural indigo dyed fine linen. Hook and eye closure on front with faux button down collar, has D pocket detailing on the chest with one real pocket and one false. Has the original mother of pearl buttons throughout. Heavily gathered fabric around the cuffs, shoulder and front under the collar.

Oversized, varied fit garment but the measurements are:

25.5” shoulder seam to seam, 19.6” shoulder seam to cuff, 37” all the way across the chest and 43” length.

Condition:

Some fading throughout, an area of repair to the front, a few small areas of wear and one repair on one shoulder. Some light signs of age and. use throughout.
